SIGNIFICANT WIN FOR HARRISON GRIERSON AT NZ PLANNING INSTITUTE AWARDS

April 2016

Our work on the Scott Point Structure Plan and Plan Variation in Auckland has won two awards - including the prestigious Supreme Practice Award - at the New Zealand Planning Institute’s 2016 Awards.

This is a significant achievement and we congratulate our multi-disciplinary team led by senior urban designer, Abu Hoque, for their outstanding effort.  The awards are the Supreme Practice Award: the Nancy Northcroft Planning Practice Award, and the Best Practice Award: District and Regional Planning.

As our partners on this project, Auckland Council shares the awards with us and we acknowledge the support and collaboration of Council’s Development Programme Office.  We also thank our client, the Clark Road Landowners’ Group, for giving us this unique opportunity and trusting us to deliver the best possible outcome for them.

The Scott Point project involved obtaining a Plan Variation proposal for over 150 hectares of rural zoned land to create a long term development framework for 3000 dwellings.  This was one of the first Variation requests to the Proposed Auckland Unitary Plan.  It was prepared in collaboration with Auckland Council and in consultation with the 38 different landowners. A Structure Plan, demonstrating how the area could be urbanised in a comprehensive way, formed the backbone of the Plan Variation proposal.

NZPI chief executive Susan Houston said the “highly successful project has been pivotal in easing the heated Auckland housing market so Harrison Grierson, with support from the Auckland Council, have been rightly been recognised with these prestigious awards."

The success of the project means that Scott Point will become urbanised five years earlier than anticipated.  And it provides a unique opportunity to create a new urban development consistent with the Government’s objective to address Auckland’s housing shortage.

Our General Manager Planning, Andrew Collins, said he was very proud of the team’s efforts, which had involved hard and challenging work over two years.
