Our Story So Far

The Company began trading in 1885 when architect John William Harrison set up practice in Auckland, New Zealand. He was later joined in partnership by surveyor Charles Kirkpatrick Grierson in 1912.  The Company has since grown into a substantial organisation with an enviable reputation for creating landmark projects and adding value to client organisations.

Today, Harrison Grierson is a large advisory and design consultancy working in four key market sectors; Land and Buildings, Water and the Environment, Utilities and Transport.  The Company operates throughout Australasia and the Pacific Rim from two regional bases, New Zealand (Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington and Christchurch) and Australia (Brisbane).

With a focused organisational culture that stretches back over 125 years, the Company is well positioned to provide clients with a variety of professional skills in engineering, surveying, planning, urban design and landscape architecture from an integrated network of offices that functions as one business.  We draw from all our people across the total organisation to ensure the optimal mix of skill and experience is applied to each project to create an outcome of lasting satisfaction.

Looking to the future, the challenge is to create better natural, social and built environments using resources in a sustainable manner.  Responding to this challenge will mean at times we will step outside contemporary thinking and create something unique that we believe will influence change towards a better world.
