The first stages of earthworks, roading, drainage and subdivision are finally underway on the Hingaia Peninsula at Karaka, Papakura after seven years in the planning.
Harrison Grierson Manukau and Newmarket offices have worked closely with landowners, Papakura District Council (PDC) and Auckland Regional Council in leading the structure and statutory planning, stormwater and civil engineering, urban and subdivision design processes to extend the metropolitan urban limit and to craft new District Plan zone provisions for 150ha of the 650ha peninsula.
Karaka was identified in the 1999 Auckland Regional Growth strategy as a future urban area with an anticipated population in excess of 10,000 people by 2050. Its unique and quality setting will set new urban development standards and property values. A 15.0 ha Mixed Use Town Centre will be a focus of the developing area and a gateway to Papakura.
Our principle clients Karaka Harbourside Estate Limited, Karaka Lakes Limited and Karaka Centre Limited are now progressively receiving rezoning and resource consent approvals from the respective authorities. This collaborative multi disciplinary process has involved a range of different disciplines within Harrison Grierson and other stakeholders over the planning and now implementation periods. An enabling feature of the process has been the preparation of a tailored financial contribution Development Agreement between landowners and PDC.
This is a significant milestone for the region and Harrison Grierson. Karaka is just the third large greenfield expansion area (after Flat Bush and Takanini) acceded to by the Auckland Regional Council. Harrison Grierson has also been instrumental in the progressive rezoning of Takanini initially for Hawkins Construction and more recently Addison Developments Limited.
