JULY 2010

Standards New Zealand released this month a revision to the national standard for design and construction of land development and subdivision infrastructure, NZS 4404:2010. A committee of industry professionals including Harrison Grierson’s Urban Design Manager, Greg McBride, has produced a benchmark for  sustainable development and modern design emphasising liveability and environmental quality.

NZS 4404:2010 Land Development and Subdivision Infrastructure makes significant changes to the 2004 standard it replaces and is the culmination of a 15 month review which sought to improve this important tool for creating urban spaces. Some of the key changes include a better  consideration of land use and its relationship with roading, a stronger emphasis on treating stormwater “before it gets into the pipe” and significant amendments to landscaping and utility services provisions.

“Harrison Grierson and its staff are proud to have played a role in bringing this new standard to fruition as it reflects the Company’s own core approach – Creative Thinking | Better Environments”, says Greg. One of Harrison Grierson’s own recent subdivision projects, Belmont in Pukekohe, is featured on the front cover of the standard, industry recognition of the Company’s commitment to the creation of great places using best practice.
