Brisbane Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Project

NOVEMBER 2011

Harrison Grierson has been appointed as principal designer of the project to upgrade all of the chemical dosing systems and associated flow monitoring and automated control systems at the combined 1000MLD plant at Mt Crosby, Brisbane. The combined plant, located on both sides of the Brisbane River, serves the City's expanding population of 2 million people.

There are 5 separate chemical dosing systems dosing to 20 points around the two parts of the plant. The systems chemically condition the raw water pumped from the river to speed up chemical reactions, precipitate out particulate and organic matter, oxidise and settle out manganese and after treatment correct the pH and disinfect the water before it flows into the City's water supply reservoirs.

The project objective is to improve the taste and aesthetics of the treated water which can be affected by the high sediment load in the river following heavy rains in the catchment areas. The engineering design is well underway and the project is due to be complete in August 2012.
