JANUARY 2010

The timely completion of the redevelopment of Eden Park Stadium is a critical part of the preparations for the Rugby World Cup 2011.  Design firm, Harrison Grierson, advising on utility infrastructure and site development reports that its design work is on schedule and largely complete. The team is now supporting the main contractor, Fletcher Construction with on going engineering advice, construction set-out on the new grandstands and quality assurance activities.

The project has presented the Harrison Grierson design team with many challenges, not the least of which have been designing the new work on a site that is already intensively developed, very complex geology and ground conditions that have made all below ground work difficult and preparing the design around specific construction phases that are scheduled between major sporting events that are still being held at the stadium.

Harrison Grierson’s director, John Tik, reports that "this is a project eveyone wants to get right, the level of cooperation between all firms on the site has been outstanding.  The Rugby World Cup will be New Zealand on the world stage, nobody is going to let the team down."
