APRIL 2009

Alastair Kent-Johnston, Harrison Grierson’s Managing Director, takes great pleasure in announcing the release of the company’s 2008 Sustainability Report, approved by the Board this month.  This is the first time that Harrison Grierson has prepared such a report and the reporting framework of the internationally recognised Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has been used.

Alastair states that while the Company expects to face a number of economic challenges as a result of the worldwide and domestic recessions in 2009, “we will not take our eye off the ball in terms of where we want to be in the medium and longer term. That is, a sustainable and innovative company that is at the forefront of the sectors in which we operate”.

This report has been the result of the collective effort of numerous individuals, led by our Sustainability Advisory Group that was initiated in 2008. The 2008 Sustainability Report is an honest “warts and all” appraisal of the Company’s performance against a range of social, cultural, environmental and financial indicators as prescribed in the GRI reporting framework. We have identified areas for improvement as well as being able to highlight a number of areas where we are making a positive difference in pursuit of sustainable objectives. While the Company is striving to reduce its own “environmental footprint”, it is in our work with our clients where we can perhaps make the biggest contribution.

The 2008 Sustainability Report provides the benchmark against which Harrison Grierson’s performance may be measured in future.  It is anticipated that this is first of many Sustainability Reports and that these will be prepared on an annual basis in future.
