Alastair Kent-Johnston, Harrison Grierson's Managing Director, is pleased to announce the release of Harrison Grierson Group's 2009 Sustainability Report. This is the second time that Harrison Grierson have prepared such a report and have again used the internationally recognised Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework for its preparation. However, the 2009 report shows analysis and reporting against a wider list of indicators and also prior indicators have been refined so as to provide a more accurate and appropriate basis for yearly comparisons.
This report has been the result of the collective effort of numerous individuals, led by our Sustainability Advisory Group. The 2009 report shows that Harrison Grierson has been successful in maintaining the momentum of 2008 in terms of ongoing and new sustainability initiatives. Furthermore, it shows improved performance as measured by several indicators of environmental, social and cultural performance (representing three of the four main cornerstones of sustainability). The fourth cornerstone of sustainability is financial performance, and in this regard 2009 was a challenging year for the Company as indeed it was for everyone involved in the property, development and local authority sectors in both Australia and New Zealand.
The 2009 Sustainability Report provides new benchmarks against which Harrison Grierson’s performance may be measured in future. It is the second of many Sustainability Reports that will continued to be prepared on an annual basis in future.
