The design and implementation of 'The Lakes', a quality new residential subdivision in Tauranga, has scooped two awards for Harrison Grierson, a Gold Award of Excellence from the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and an Award of Merit in the Urban Land Development category at the Property Council of New Zealand 2009 Industry Awards.

The project began in 2005 when Harrison Grierson was instructed to undertake worldwide research for the developer, Grasshopper Farms, into the urban design philosophy of the development of 254 hectares of newly zoned land on the southern fringe of Tauranga. Subsequently, an award winning masterplan was developed by Harrison Grierson that delivers a traditional leafy neighbourhood with clusters of compact housing surrounded by ample open space and a lake network.

The development vision as provided in the masterplan enhances the natural environment, appreciates the site’s history, and integrates open space into a layout that ceates a useable, safe movement network for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. These leading edge, urban design principles and a variety of housing types and densities foster a memorable living environment and another Harrison Grierson signature project.
