Rugby World Cup 2011 Programme is Met for the Eden Park Venue
NOVEMBER 2010
In any major redevelopment project, there are key consultants who need to be in on the ground floor. For the Eden Park project, Harrison Grierson was one of these. The firm was contracted very early on in the process to provide civil engineering and surveying services for the works.
Director John Tik says Harrison Grierson was contracted to provide initial onsite investigations and a review of the existing infrastructure. The company was then responsible for masterplanning the new infrastructure for the project. "Our consultancy work included the design of the bulk excavations and earthworks; determining the final site levels for paving, car parks and entrances; making provision for all the major services, including stormwater, sewer, water and fire mains; and monitoring the construction of these services."
Tik says Harrison Grierson completed the project in two phases, starting with the civil enabling works. This included designing and obtaining consents from local authorities for the excavation and earthworks. It also covered onsite installation and diversion of the major infrastructure in preparation for the new stand construction.
Phase two of the project involved the detailed civil design associated with providing service connections to the buildings, and the provision of working drawings for the construction of the car parks, paving and transport hubs. Survey setout and control for the building consturction was also undertaken by Harrison Grierson. "Close co-ordination with all the other design consultants, cost and project managers, the client and main contractor ensured we could successfully meet a challenging time frame," says Tik.
