Gary Black

Technical Director - Transport

Gary learned his trade in the UK before hitting the road – and eventually the plane – to make Aotearoa New Zealand home.

As our Technical Director – Transport, Gary provides the strategic and technical leadership that underpins our transport planning and engineering work, ensuring technical excellence, and mentoring the next generation of transport professionals.

Gary plays a pivotal role in delivering the wide range of transport projects our clients rely on – from standalone Auckland Transport initiatives through to major multi-disciplinary developments such as large residential subdivisions. A passionate engineer, he takes real satisfaction in work done well and is committed to growing capability across the industry.

“I love to share my knowledge, motivating the team to bring out the best in my up-and-coming engineers,” he says. “They’re the future of the transportation industry, after all.”

Outside the office, Gary adopts retired greyhounds and helps ease them into a slower pace of life. He’s also often found tinkering with classic cars or escaping into the quiet of Aotearoa’s great outdoors for a tramp.
