Gary Black

Gary learned his trade in the UK, before hitting the road (or the plane) to head out here to Aotearoa New Zealand.

He now heads up our transportation team of 11 engineers, based in Auckland and Wellington, while also mentoring future professionals.

As Transportation Manager he facilitates our delivery of the many and varied projects demanded by our Harrison Grierson clients – from standalone projects for Auckland Transport to being part of a wider multi-discipline team such as a large residential sub-division.

A passionate engineer, Gary takes huge satisfaction from a project delivered well and loves mentoring new and experienced engineers to help them grow their careers. 

“I love to share my knowledge, motivating the team to bring out the best in my up-and-coming engineers,’ he says. “They’re the future of the transportation industry after all.” 

Away from work, Gary owns retired greyhounds, easing them into a more relaxed home life. His engineering nous also sees him tinker with classic cars. Or for some peace and quiet, Gary loves nothing better than tramping in our beautiful countryside.
