Grow your career from
good to great

As a leading engineering and design consultancy, we know that our people are the key to our success. With that in mind, we invest in their careers with training, personal development and enhanced work/life benefits. And our collaborative and friendly culture means we enjoy working together on interesting and diverse projects across the country.

Why you'll love working at hg

We’re interesting

The variety and scale of our projects is impressive. You’ll be working on interesting and diverse projects from start to finish. You’ll also be working with talented colleagues across different disciplines. And, you’ll be backed by a great team of people and a genuinely welcoming culture.

We grow your career

We’re big on learning and development, so you’ll gain hands-on training across a variety of subjects from leadership development to technical skills. As well as our own Learning and Development curriculum, we offer generous provisions for study leave and tertiary assistance to encourage you to grow and develop.

We’re the right size

As one of NZ’s most experienced multi-disciplinary consultancies, we’ve got plenty of expertise to help you really go places. We’re not so big that you’re just another employee – but we’re small enough to ensure you’re part of our team from day one.

We’re one great team

We play as hard as we work. From social nights to team sporting events, there’s always something going on.

And we celebrate success with our Quarterly Values Awards. You could be nominated by your peers and pleasantly rewarded for your efforts in demonstrating our company values.

We're proudly NZ owned

It means a lot to us that we’re NZ owned – although our thinking remains positively world-class.

We’ve got great employee benefits

Celebration Day – you’ll be entitled to an extra paid day off every year to celebrate something important to you.

Extra week off – you can purchase an additional week’s leave and take 5 weeks off each year if you want more time out.

You’ll also enjoy subsidised health insurance, fresh fruit baskets delivered to your office, enhanced parental leave provisions, our Employee Assistance Programme, 10 days of sick leave and the possibility of flexible working hours.

“Being the front face of the company on a wide range of interesting and often complex projects is exciting and challenging. It keeps me on my toes and extends me, even after 20 years with the company.”

Simon Murphy
Land Development Manager

“The atmosphere around the office, the staff and the social get-togethers has made me feel welcome from day one. Meeting with clients and homeowners has been very positive and the attitude that everyone has to move forward has been a great driver for me.”

Tom Pendreigh
Graduate Structural Engineer

“My work is always engaging and worthwhile. I enjoy getting to see well thought out design implemented. Having something come off the page and exceed expectations is something to strive for.”

Peter Evans
Senior Civil Engineer

“HG is multi-disciplinary now, but the draw-card for me is 130 years of surveying history. There’s a vast depth of collective knowledge and experience within the surveying team across HG nationwide and for me that’s an inspiring legacy and a great environment for me to learn more.”

Clare Tolan
Licensed Cadastral Surveyor

Career development

Get ready to go from good… to great. As the saying goes, you’re only as good as the company you keep. That’s why we place a lot of emphasis on training our people here at Harrison Grierson. We offer a dedicated, long-term programme with a learning structure that supports our people to reach their chosen professional goals sooner. Our development philosophy also supports our team throughout the various stages of their career whether they are graduates, mid career or senior professionals.

Performance Excellence Programme

We work with each employee to create a unique Development Plan as part of our personalised Performance Excellence Programme.

In-House Development

We recognise that so much of what a professional learns comes from working with, and learning from, colleagues and hands-on ‘on the job’ training. Individual divisions and offices also have their own initiatives to ensure ongoing development for their specific disciplines.

Professional Associations and CPD

Harrison Grierson has a close working relationship with the relevant professional associations in New Zealand for all our specialist areas. We’re also recognised by the Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand (IPENZ) as a Professional Development Partner and we have programmes in place that provide pathways to IPENZ competence based membership, for all membership classes.

All our professionals are expected to keep their skills current and up to date to ensure their ongoing memberships.
