Joshua Mason

Technical Manager - High Definition Survey

Recently, Josh’s had more than his fair share of wild adventures using his drone expertise to survey the extent of the damage caused by extreme weather events. Whether it’s for the Nelson, Western Bay of Plenty or Auckland Councils, KiwiRail, First Gas or Waka Kotahi Josh and his exceptional talent have been in demand as assessments in remote or hard to get at areas have been required due to natural disasters.

But Josh’s work isn’t all drone-related.  “HG allows me to chase the type of projects I find interesting with an enormous amount of freedom and trust,” says Josh. "I look after the implementation of new survey technology, work on better ways to capture and deliver our data and assess changes to the way we do things.”

If there is a problem to be overcome to deliver a client’s project, Josh revels in figuring out a solution. He works with laser scanners, UAVs and digital capture methods to capture site reality and to share that across the project team.  It’s all about working together, he says. “The HG team has more inbuilt knowledge and expertise which I can tap into at any time over a beer or coffee in a real team environment.”

Outside work, Josh loves taking his kids to sporting and social events, hitting the water and exploring all that the Bay of Plenty has to offer.
