Matthew Prasad

Matthew (Matt) Prasad is a leading voice in urban development across Aotearoa, with over two decades of experience shaping cities, communities, and infrastructure. Based in Wai o Taiki Bay, Auckland, Matt blends strategic insight with design excellence to deliver people-focused, culturally grounded urban outcomes that endure.

Matt’s career spans architecture, urban design, infrastructure strategy, spatial planning and development advisory. He has led regeneration, infill, brownfield, greyfield, and greenfield projects across Tāmaki Makaurau and beyond, working with councils, Kāinga Ora, iwi, private developers, and central government. His work balances social purpose and cultural identity with the economic and planning realities that shape our built environment.

As our technical director of urban and spatial strategy, this is the second time Matt has worked for HG, and we’re thrilled to have him join the team again.

Matt’s project portfolio includes Future Development Strategies, housing feasibility study (spatial and financial), and the transformative urban Plan Changes across the motu. He’s advised on strategic planning for various councils and contributed to RMA reform.

Known for bringing clarity to complexity, Matt excels at aligning diverse interests and leading high-performing teams. He grounds his approach in partnership, equity, and practical delivery. He’s a regular speaker at industry conferences and has contributed thought leadership and public discourse through RNZ, BusinessDesk, and The Spinoff, reinforcing his role as a trusted advisor at the highest levels.
