Miguel Braga
Senior Structural Engineer - StructuresA structural engineer for over 35 years, Miguel is passionate about designing elegant, efficient and cost-effective solutions for his clients and communities.
''I enjoy the diversity of our work and always strive for success,'' says Miguel, who moved from Portugal to New Zealand almost a decade ago.
Project highlights to date?
''The Wellington Convention Centre for sure. It was a very challenging project where an amazing working relationship with the main contractor’s team and their sub-contractors allowed us to excel. Prior to coming to NZ, in Portugal, it would have to be the ‘Ponte de Vila Nova de Cerveira’, a bridge over the northern Portuguese-Spanish border. It’s a beautifully elegant bridge with 101m spans over the Minho River.''
Outside of work, Miguel is a family man with five grown up children.
"Family is still always first. With family or friends, I like to go hiking through unspoiled natural landscapes, skiing down a mountainside, going out for wildlife photography and bird watching / bird banding, either on land or out at sea. And, when at home, reading a good book or baking those sugar and egg yolk-packed traditional Portuguese desserts that make the soul glow warmer.''
