Harrison Grierson’s structural team provided consent-level design and PS1 certification to Kāinga Ora as part of the proposed redevelopment of its existing site on Ngatiapa Street in the suburb of Strathmore, Wellington.
Located on the top of Wellington’s Strathmore Hill and overlooking Wellington International Airport, this 49-unit development sits outside wind zones. Therefore, all sub and superstructure elements in the three-storey walk-up apartments and the two-storey duplex houses had to be specifically designed.
Harrison Grierson’s structural team proposed to use mixed timber/steel super structural systems, allowing us to provide housing that was light-weight construction while achieving robust and sustainable outcomes for Kāinga Ora on what is a very exposed site in Strathmore.
We were thrilled to be able to support our client's vision of redeveloping the site with a mixture of modern, fit-for-purpose, two-storey duplex houses and three-storey walk-up apartment blocks, which include a community centre.
