Quad 7 Auckland International Airport commercial office development

Structural Engineering

Quad 7 on Leonard Isitt Drive is one of the latest developments in Auckland Airport’s Quad Office Precinct. The 9,000m2, 5 Green Star-rated building is an important piece of the larger masterplan in both location and scale.

Harrison Grierson was responsible for the structural and civil design of the Warren and Mahoney-designed building. We also completed the building survey set out and construction observation.

The elegant structural form is an upper four-storey box supported on a double-storey base with diagonal steel V-brace columns. It also features large cantilevers at both ends of the building to give the structure a floating form. Other challenges included founding the building on 27-metre-long screw piles due to the soft ground.

Harrison Grierson completed the design using BIM 3D modelling techniques with extensive coordination with the project team.

The overall result is a stunning addition to the Quad Precinct and a distinctive statement at the main entry to the airport.
