Vernon Drive water supply and treatment facility
Harrison Grierson was engaged by City Care to provide structural and survey services for a new water supply and treatment facility for Selwyn District Council. The new facility will help support the growing requirements for fresh drinking water in the town of Lincoln.
The completed facility comprises a 0.8ML circular water reservoir and pump house, designed for an Importance Level (IL) of 4, and a 100-year design life. This required both the reservoir and the pump house to be constructed with in-situ and pre-cast concrete.
The reservoir walls were formed using post tensioned panels, which is the most economic design, and provides a durable and robust structure given the 100-year design life.
HG also produced all ‘As Built’ documentation. This was generated using 3D point-cloud scanning and modelling tools, which helped Selwyn District Council visualise the entire site with an interactive 3D model.
The use of precast concrete panels (walls and roof) for the tank and the pump house allowed the majority of the structure to be formed off-site. This reduced the need for extensive propping and temporary works and the associated need for onsite manual handling and working at height.
