Rangitahi Peninsula Rezoning and Subdivision, Raglan

PlanningCivil EngineeringLand DevelopmentSurveying

The Rangitahi Peninsula in Raglan is a sensitive coastal location with unique access and infrastructure challenges.

The Raglan Land Company is developing 190 hectares on the peninsula into a master planned community of some 500 dwellings and mixed-use sustainable tourism activities and services, over the next 20-30 years.

Our services

We led a multidisciplinary team through the rezoning process - including plan change and design, consultation, and hearings.

Our services included:

  • Strategic development advice

  • Project management

  • Planning, Civil engineering

  • Land development

  • Traditional and 3D laser surveying

Challenges

A major challenge was the critical timeframes to be met and the large area to be surveyed. Because traditional survey methods could not accomplish the job in time, we used a combination of GPS, a robotic total station, 3D laser scanning and a fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to survey the entire site in three days. Plans showing contours, roading, vegetation, buildings and tidal mudflats were delivered in less than two weeks.

A major challenge was the critical timeframes to be met and the large area to be surveyed. The use of leading-edge surveying technology allowed us to produce large-scale topographical maps in a short time.

Outcomes

The rezoning has been successfully achieved and infrastructure and subdivision design well underway. The use of leading-edge surveying technology allowed us to produce large-scale topographical maps in a short time. This enabled our engineering team to advance infrastructure designs to meet critical milestone dates.

We are designing road, bridge and coastal causeway upgrades, water supply and wastewater infrastructure, and the first stages of the subdivision.

The Raglan Land Company has a clear vision to create something truly special, and our role is to help turn that vision into reality.
